My Favorite Character

concordplayers.org

This is a picture of my favorite character out of all the plays that we've read. His name is Algernon Moncrieff from the play "The Importance of Being Earnest". This was also my favorite play. Algernon, or Algy as he's often called, was by far my favorite character. He was a very witty character who always seemed to have a funny opinion about things. I loved his lines in the play because he was the one who would get to say the puns or just plain nonsense at times. I also liked him because he was so concerned with food, that it was practically all he would ever talk about. I also liked him the most because I read his part in the play.

My Favorite Play

This is a picture from the play "The Importance of Being Earnest". I thought this was by far the best play that we have read all year for a few different reasons. Obviously because it was a comedy, a British comedy at that, which I really liked. I also just liked the storyline that the play followed. I thought that the character Algernon was absolutely great too. He was a kind of sarcastic character who just said what was on his mind and I like that. I also just liked that we acted this one out and I was involved in it.

Emily

Emily is getting on my nerves today. I swear I think I just want to slap the girl. She just sits and makes fun of me all throughout the class and its rather hurtful. I don't feel like writing anymore because she is about to make me cry.

Alan Jackson, Josh Turner, and Chris Young

Froggyradio.com

So this is basically going to be my Friday night. I'm extremely excited to see these three guys. Alan Jackson is one of my top 5 favorite country artist of all time. (Brad Paisley is #1) They are going to be at Roberts Stadium Friday night in Evansville at 8:00. I was originally going to see them with one of the guys that I work with, but his mom is coming in from St. Louis because he graduates from college Saturday. Then I was going to go with a friend of mine from school, but her parents don't know me and don't like the idea of their daughter being out late in Evansville with some guy they don't know. Which is very understandable, I would have been more surprised had they let her go. However, now the guy's mom isn't going to come in till early Saturday so he can go with me. I was actually rather worried I would be going by myself. I was still going to go since it cost $70 per ticket and I didn't want to waste the money.

All Time Low

tinypic.com

All Time Low = a great band, end of story. They are a very young band from Baltimore who haven't quite reached their full potential yet. They are pretty much a high school band that you would hear at a party. They make a kind of pop music with kind of punk influences. Had they come out just about 6 months earlier with their first cd it would be them instead of Boys Like Girls getting the attention from MTV. They however have finally started to become a well known band, even getting an episode of MTV Unplugged picture above. Its definitely my favorite episode of Unplugged that I've seen, other than maybe Clapton's episode. They are one of the bands that I would love to see live because I feel like they would be even better live. I would have loved to have gone to this though, because it seems like a very intimate setting and it was all acoustic and I feel that all their songs would translate very well to an acoustic version.

The Innability to Make Meaningful Human Connections

I think that this means that they don't work well with others. They aren't able to interact with the outside world very well. They aren't able to be connected to anyone because they are too closed off. An example from the story is obviously Beatrice. She has closed herself off from the outside world by staying in the house all day everyday. Another is Nanny who is physically closed off from the outside world due to being deaf and practically blind. Tillie is also an example of this because she hasn't had anyone to teach her how to interact with others. Its not her fault that her mom can't do it, she just a victim of circumstance.

Life Versus Death

I think that it kind of means life will survive even when surrounded by darkness. Throughout the play images of death or decay are prominent. Ruth has a dream about finding a man, Mr. Mayonaise, dead. Also Nanny is referred to as a walking corpse. The example of life is Tillie though. She is the only optimistic person in the play. She grows the marigolds which are the sign of life.

Dreams

blogspot.com

I think that everyone has their own dream. People dream about what they want in life whether its way down the road or next week. Its a vital part of life because if you don't have dreams, then you might as well just give up. An example from the play is Beatrice's dream to have some kind of business in the house. She dreams of having something like a tea shop. Another is Tillie's dream to win the science fair.

Self Image

Self image is basically the way you look at yourself. Its kind of how you think about yourself. An example in the play is Ruth and Beatrice don't think they look good, so they try to doll themselves up for other people. In the play Beatrice doesn't want to go to the science fair final because she says she has nothing to wear and won't look good. Another example is when Ruth tells Tillie she needs to take the bow out of her hair cause she'll be laughed off the stage. She is feeling insecure for Tillie and also herself cause she has gotten dolled up in this scene too.

Triumph in the Face of Adversity

I think that this means that someone is able to overcome any obstacle that comes in their way. If something comes up to stop them, they just find a way to accomplish their goal. An example of this is Tillie when she enters the science fair. She basically knows that she isn't popular, but she goes up there and does her thing. Another example is Beatrice as a whole. She is on the negative side of this though. She has let everything thats happened to her in life ruin her and turn her into a bitter person.
